If there is one product that has been getting a lot of scrutiny, it’s the plastic straw and rightfully so. With the use of single-use plastics it has basically clogged up our environment and meandered out into the oceans, therefore our salt too. You can watch the ‘A Plastic Ocean‘ documentary on Netflix that discusses all of the pollution that is affecting our environment and oceans and how we should really ban single-use plastics. Finally, the industry is starting to make a change producing alternatives such as special paper straws instead of plastic, or wooden cutlery instead of plastic. As time goes on, consumers luckily are becoming more aware and have resorted to metal straws as opposed to using the disposable common alternative.
Yes, metal straws are a step in the right direction and they definitely have somewhat caught on, but there’s a gap of some sort with the experience between metal and plastic straws. The most obvious different is that metal straws are not flexible, so they don’t bend at all and can clink against your pearly whites. On the other hand, they are much more sturdy than a plastic straw and keep your beverage cool too! The Chew straw is an attempt to solve that experience gap by creating a silicone sleeve to the already existing metal straw. It extends upwards out of the aluminum straw, the silicone sleeve is flexible and food-grade, not to mention it has more of a plastic straw feel to it than a metal one banging off of your teeth. The name ‘Chew’ developed from the habit people develop when they chew on the ends of plastic straws, even I do it sometimes. This straw is non-disposable and environmentally friendly, what’s there not to love?
This straw design comes in two parts that are put together, easy to carry around and clean to be ready to be used whenever it is needed. The Chew comes in its own case that keeps it from getting dirty. Being aluminum and silicone, Chew should last many years and is easy to maintain, as it is dishwasher safe. Chew even comes with a cleaning brush!
